holy crap, she's blogging.

hi! i still have a month or so left on my typepad account, so i may as well use it (and see if anyone still has me on their blog reader lists...)

things here are good. haven't been crafting much, haven't been thrifting much, but i've been making a lot of progress on house projects. my bedroom re-do is just about done...

i finally got some art work up on jane's walls after painting her room last spring...

why does it always take me forever to hang things on the walls? i also put up some new shelving for charlie. his collection of lego sets is getting out of control...

the dead bird is from john's office - charlie asked if he could have it. i've also made a lot of progress in the yard but it's far from picture-worthy.

john and the kids have been having a lot of fun with stop motion animation. they were inspired by this piece, which was shot in john's office. john and charlie started playing around with the legos, and eventually came up with this. then jane decided she wanted to do some clay-mation for her school project on penguins, and she and john created this. so damn cute, right?

what else? we're about to re-do the kitchen floor and rip apart the bathroom, so things are gonna get real ugly around here for a bit. then hopefully real pretty. i wish we could just skip ahead to the pretty.

hope everything is sunshine and lollipops where you are. i'm still on flickr (and will be more so once i get a decent camera back in my life). and i'm on facebook a ridiculous amount of time (scrabble. i'm all about the scrabble). but i suspect you're too cool or smart for that. i understand.

hello! we just got back from a road-trip down to d.c., which was great. in general, traveling with the kids is great right now. i feel like i want to cram as much traveling as we can afford into the next few years because it's only a matter of time before adolescence hits and john and i become big fat losers they don't want to be seen with in public.

the natural history museum was my favorite. some of the displays were so beautiful.


what else is going on? i'm in major spruce-up-the-house mode. i was thinking today of how many ideas and inspiration i get from my blog friends. like this paint color for my bedroom, which i totally stole from aprill. or this idea for a birthday present, which i totally stole from leslie (big hit, by the way. and yes, charlie tapes lots of arbitrary crap onto his walls)

or this fabric i just used to re-vamp my basement desk space, which i didn't totally steal from anyone but i thought it was funny that amy and i bought some at the same time. great minds and all that.

so...life is good.
and i just saw a sign for a rummage sale this saturday. i think i might have to hit that. it's been a while.
hopefully i'll be back here soon w/some thrifting to brag about.

first shout-out goes to my eight-year-old son charlie on his birthday.

he's just so frickin' cute and sweet and snuggly and goofy and awesome.

he's having a mellow birthday. we're off to have dinner w/some friends soon. i made him a candy mountain cake, per his request.

second shout-out is for the locals. my friends nicole and bess have written a very funny play (based on nicole's very funny zine which is being made into a very funny book) which bess is currently performing here in portland. if you haven't seen it yet, hop to it. it won't be here forever. bess is pretty amazing and i laughed some big laughs when i saw it last week.

that's all i got today. hope you're having an excellent april fool's day and you didn't fall for the sink spray gag like i did even though i had been warned by jen (who also got hosed this morning) and my very nice son who warned me and then i forgot 15 minutes later.

so, hi! hope you're well. things here are good. our school auction was last weekend and it was really fun. me and jen and our friend willa headed up decorations and they looked great (picture stolen from jen because i still have no camera. grrrrrr....)

a little over the top but in a good way, i think. i made some stuff for the auction too, but i have no pictures (grrrr).

not much else new to report. we've got some big house projects in the works and that's eating into any crafty time i might have. i've been rearranging our basement space (my craft space) to make room for jane's new piano and jane and charlie's new wii (yes, i caved).

charlie's got a b-day coming up and wants some very specific things. if his cake comes out the way i'm hoping, i'll definitely have some photos to share soon.

reasons i haven't been blogging

• i have no interesting crafting or thrifting to report
• we've been sickly
• i haven't updated my etsy site in, like, forever
• i lost my camera. seriously, i'm super pissed. (this is also the reason i've completely dropped the ball on the picture-a-day project over on flickr)
• it's february
• oh, and facebook
• lately blogs have been overwhelming me

but since i'm here, here's what's new...

• i've been working on our school's auction decorations. they are going to be glitter-tastic. just like my house has been since i started working on them...

• dawn sent me a whole bunch of super cool stuff. she's the coolest...

• sarah sent me one of her beautiful prints just because. if you haven't bought one of her prints, you really should. not only are her prints amazing, but her packaging job is inspired. really cool.
• i actually do have a few small craft projects in the works and will post them here soon.

so i think things are fizzling out here. i've really loved being part of this craft-blog community and am grateful for all the support and camaraderie. i think i'll still post sporadically. we'll see. if you really miss me you can always catch up w/me over on flickr. or challenge me to a scrabble game over on facebook. i'd be more than happy to kick your ass*. unless you are lori pickert and have sold your soul for mad scrabble skillz.

*i'm exaggerating. plenty of people have kicked my ass. but i AM pretty good...

like amy and leya, i'm all about the striped socks. and these photos are evidence that i wouldn't have to look far for some red in my life.

if you are a facebook whore like me, you might enjoy this clip. i have several friends - and a husband - who are way too cool for facebook, and i totally get why. it's kind of ridiculous. but i think it's fun. and an excellent antidote to the cabin fever that's seeping into my soul.

i'm joining leya for color week. i like having an assignment. tomorrow is purple, which might be tough. i think i lead a pretty purple-free life.

i had some weird 24-hour bug this weekend which led to an entire day on the couch, watching last season's 30 rock, which i'm pretty certain is the best show on t.v.
