quick hello

Img_0005_7
holy crap we need to do some raking. our yard always seems last on our to-do list.

busy busy week ahead: craft fair, school book fair, numerous doctors' appts (why do they always seem to cluster together in one week?), etc. i'll probably pop in for a quick hello here and there but may be largely missing.

happy halloween! i'm going to try to get some good pictures of the kids in all their finery tonight...

i heart 70s stoneware

70s1 70s2
my new favorite thrift store finds (something new to prowl around for...)

my fingers are double-crossed today that my kids are all better and make it through the school day. jane was home for the better part of the past three weeks (pneumonia and related respiratory stuff) and was a little teary on her first day back. and charlie is often a bit teary in the morning regardless of health. but they are there now so i better get to work.

craft fair this saturday...looking forward to it and crafting madly until then...

happy monday, everyone!

arrrrggh, monkey!

sock monkey for our good friend, jack's birthday.

three cups of coffee and i am flying through my saturday morning to-do list. hope you are having a great weekend!

blue bird wish

i found an old camp fire girls manual at a thrift store today. the "blue birds" are the younger camp fire girls...

Bbwish

i especially love "want to keep my temper most of the time", "make beautiful things", and "know about trees and flowers and birds". good stuff.

various half-completed projects scattered around my basement. abandoning them all today to work on some way-overdue and due-soon birthday gifts.

hope everyone is having a productive day!

(i hate the light in my basement, btw)

anticipation

Collegegirls

i read what both emily and alicia wrote this past week about friends, school, moving on, etc. i've been thinking a lot about these very subjects. above are some pics of me and my college chums (circa 1988-1992).

i feel super lucky to have these girls in my life. some of us keep in touch sporadically; a few of us still chat almost daily. we have seen each other through drunken mishaps, first loves (lots of firsts, really), weddings, pregnancies, miscarriages, childbirth, post-partum, pms, divorces, dating after divorce, child-rearing quandaries, etc. is it any wonder, really, that some of my most loyal friends are the ones who saw each other through our drunk-n-slutty phases without judgment or ridicule (well, actually, lots of ridicule, but there is some really good material there...)

every year a few of us get together for a girls-weekend...we rent a house somewhere w/good shopping/food nearby and make slovenly pigs of ourselves for a few days. this year, i am hosting the girls weekend at my house (john and the kids are heading out of town). we decided to make a real effort to get some of the more distant girls to come. and they are coming! from connecticut, new jersey, seattle even! i'm so excited i'm practically peeing my pants!

they are coming next month, and i'll probably be babbling about it more in the weeks ahead. i'll try not to bore you with it (but i am practically peeing my pants).

terry, gritty, sandy, yuna, connie, doreen, lynn, sue...can't wait to see you!!

window shopping

Pixies

so, i know i said i would shut up about christmas until after thanksgiving but i can't help it, it is on my mind.

we are not religious folk, and i like to joke that i just enjoy the commercial aspects of christmas. but that isn't really true. i think what i like most about christmas are the crafting, decorating, and baking opportunities that abound. and since i am very much the frugal/crafty type, it is often a very homemade christmas around here.

what i do love to shop for (earmuffs on the kids here) are stocking stuffers, and i love when i can find something cute and handmade. here are a couple goodies i've been eye-ing for their stockings this year...

also, jen and i started exchanging stockings last year - very fun. since we have such similar taste, we ended up getting each other a few of the same things. the other day i told her i had ordered something for her stocking, she said "me, too". i said "wouldn't it be funny if we got each other the same thing again?" she said "did you order a glitter ring from glamscience?"

damn her and her super-human gift-guessing skills.

p.s. speaking of window shopping, i am in love with the latest anthropologie catalog. drooling over this. and this. and this. oh yeah, and this.

good for now

i think this is as far as i'm getting for now - i'm itching to do some crafting today. i went a bit overboard and started re-arranging the whole house yesterday. you know how that can happen? start with one room...spills over into the next...

anyway, still a work in progress but tidy and organized enough that i am going to dive right in and ignore the other end of the basement...

hope everyone is having a great friday!

progress is being made

Shelves Alltidy
just some proof that i am making progress.

i still have this to contend with...
Img_0003_6
unfortunately, most of these are unusable for my purposes (purchased for me or given to me by friends). they are taking up a good chunk of my basement's storage area. if you live local and think you might want some, drop me an e-mail - they are yours for the taking!

found

Icare
this is what i found when i opened one of my yardsale suitcases this morning. i think it may be my new favorite button.

working furiously setting up my new craft space. nothing like a no-money make-over to help get your mojo back!
