oh! did i tell you that my all-time favorite kids' book is now a movie?* i'm a little disconcerted because my recollection of this book (which i have read several times) is that it is less about the magical kingdom they find in the woods and more about their friendship and the movie (from what i've seen of the trailer) seems to be more about the kingdom. have you read this book? am i right? i might be wrong...but i'm pretty sure i'm right. of course i will go see it regardless.

jane wants to see it too but i told her she has to read the book first. that has always been my rule.  i haven't seen running with scissors yet because i am the last person on earth to read the book (which i just finally finished and will get back to you asap, jen). and i haven't seen the cider house rules because for some reason i can't get through that book even though i am a huge john irving fan and have read almost everything else he has written (and i know it's probably his most socially relevant book. i really don't know why i can't finish it).

anyway.

i am home with charlie again today. i know this sounds twisted, but do you ever kind of like when you kid is a little sick and all sweaty and pathetic and cuddly? i do. charlie and i did a little quality boob-tube watching yesterday. we watched free to be you and me. my favorite parts are the story of atalanta and rosey grier singing it's allright to cry.

*i know i'm not your only news source. i have a friend from college who would say stuff like that a lot, like "hey, did i tell you guys that jackie o died?" it was cute and endearing, not annoying.

jane swap

as some of you may know, my friend, erin, also has a daughter named jane. erin thought it would be fun for them to do a craft swap. both girls were super-duper excited. my jane got her package yesterday and was literally jumping up and down. isn't that note great? here's what was inside...

bad car kharma (or carma, if you're feeling punny)

were i to believe in such things, i'd say car karma has come to bite me in the ass. i haven't been taking care of her, and have been rewarded this past month with a dead battery, a flat tire, getting pulled-over for overdue registration, and a busted alternator. she's in the shop today. i promise to take better care of her from now on.

thanks for playing along with me last week. like leya, i think i will do that again every so often. it's fun + easy + kinda motivates me to have a productive week.

despite being home with a sick kid (charlie this time...just a cold) and despite being car-less, i am determined to have another productive week and am going to go hit that to-do list right now. hopefully i'll have more photographic evidence of my progress soon. until then, here are some silly pictures of my grandma's tea set and tea cup collection that don my dining room china cabinet...

song of the week: i don't like mondays/boomtown rats. i could tell aidan wasn't that into it. it's a little melancholy and minor chordish i guess - but i love piano bands and that was just my mood this morning. we'll see if it grows on him. (i don't really want to shoot the whole day down).

(for kids' school auction)

so i didn't get everything on my big list done this week, but i certainly made progress (and yes, i got my car registered). i feel less like i am treading water (or drowning) and more like i am swimming forward (ironic that i use this metaphor since one of the things i didn't get done was calling to set up a swim lesson for myself so i can start laps). whatever.

and, while i was better about my bloggy/flickry time, i still lurked around a little (especially on flickr). i got some new favorites. wanna see?

get kids to school 20 minutes late due to flat tire (and super-star husband who came dashing back home to change it for me) :: work at library job for 4 hours (most of the library work i do is cataloging...in a little room surrounded by stacks of books and i really love it. i probably should have added that to the "six weird things about me") :: stop at the market on the way home for a few staples (coffee, chocolate, wine) :: home just long enough to walk yoko, contemplate the large pile of dirty dishes on the counter, then head down to the basement to say hello to you :: off to pick up kids :: craft with kids :: yet-to-be-determined dinner :: get cozy in pjs and maybe all watch a movie covered up in lots of blankets because it is a tit nipple out today

tough love

i procrastinate. for example? for example, i got pulled over yesterday because my registration had expired 6 months ago.* i bet you can't one-up that (or maybe you can. actually, if you can, please do. it would make me feel a lot better). lately, i've been putting off lots of stuff (personally, professionally, volunteerily, craftinally...*) and it is all starting to catch up with me and i'm starting to feel that panicky feeling where you just don't know where to begin.

and since my favorite form of procrastination involves blogging and flickring, i think i need to step away from the computer a bit. which is pretty tough because i've got quite the addiction going. so here's my compromise...this week i'll bring my camera out and about with me and post a picture a day from my life (just because i think it will be fun and i love when other people do that and maybe i'll even read my camera manual and learn something new). but i won't be keeping up w/blogs or commenting or checking flickr or posting on flickr or commenting on flickr. hey, you know what would be helpful? maybe if everyone could just not post any great thrift finds or any great art or craft that you've made or any pictures of your adorable children and/or pets and then i won't miss out. ok? great. thanks.

*it always pays to be nice and polite and humble and apologetic to policemen...i got no ticket despite the aforementioned way-overdue registration and insurance card sitting in a green folder on my kitchen counter and not in my glove compartment. thank you, nice police officer!
