fabric porn
the yearly salvation army fabric sale was today. just like last year, it was pouring rain out (people start lining up around an hour before). just like last year, there were oodles of cranky old ladies cutting in line and cursing you under their breath (you are quite right about that, amanda). just like last year, i got totally overwhelmed and my eyes glazed over and i started wandering aimlessly and bumping into people and finally gave up and got in line to have my stuff weighed. and just like last year, i scored some great fabric dirt cheap.
(sorry about the light - it's really overcast today).
i hope all you ladies i bumped into this morning found some great stuff, too. i'll just be relieved to know you got out of there safely...
(happy mother's day!)
(have a great weekend!)

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! I really can't breathe!!!! THOSE ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!xoxo

sweet scores, meg. Love that last piece.
I made it out okay, though I'm too overwhelmed to look at what I came out with yet. I feel like a freaking zombie.
Happy Mother's Day and weekend to you!!

how exactly did they do the sale? you weighed in your stuff? that sounds exciting!!!!
what exactly are the fabrics from?
pillow cases, old arprons, stuff like that or is it actual fabric?

Be still my beating heart. I'm lucky to get the odd scrap of fabric at my local charity shop. Such a wonderful score. Enjoy!!

I want a kilt made out of the red and white fabric with the woodland creatures on it. Nice score, hun.

Great stuff! I think I have some sort of coordinating fabric for that red and white one in the top shot. Mine is black and white with slightly different stuff in the pattern. But maybe the same designer?

oooh.... you found great stuff!
trying not to be overwhelmed with bitter, petty jealousy :P

All of the work was worth it - you got a great haul! At least the cranky old ladies were somewhat civilized - I've run into a few recently whose cursing hasn't be under their breath. Old age excuses a lot... not everything, but a lot.

Oh yeah, baby. You did really well. All I can say is: I barely made it out of there alive. You did well making your great escape when you did because girl, it wasn't pretty after you checked out. Man. I'm still recovering though I did take a little roll in my newly acquired vintage fabric earlier today.
*swoon* I love that last one. And also that purple-y one second from the left in the second pic. Fan-freaking-tastic.

Wow - can't wait to see what you make out of those fabrics. Just wondering if you'd let me/us in on how to find out about next years sale?
Posted by: sharon | May 15, 2007 at 10:34 AM
sorry I missed you at the sale! Great finds though, love the last one. Did you see the "I'm not shy." lady over in the notions section, furiously looking for ric-rac? It was all elbows between her and I!!

ha ha!
funniest post ever. i worked at a fabric store in high school. I was 15 and I just folded remnants, swept, put up and straightened bolts-that kinda thing. We had a bi-annual moonlight sale and this old woman knocked me down to grab a bolt that i was putting back on a table and I ended up spraining my ankle. Biddies can be very mean!;)
You totally scored-can't wait to see what you make.
