(we're all just crawling out from under a rock after being sick for most of the last few days. i sat on the couch with the kids and made lots of paper snowflakes...)
i have this bloggy friend that lives a couple miles from my house and we have a few friends in common and we leave comments on each other's blogs and e-mail back and forth sometimes yet we've never met (though our husbands have). i like this little piece of self-deprecating snark that she posted yesterday.
it reminds me of last spring when i was in brooklyn for renegade - i was having some drinkies w/some brooklyn friends and my friend scott asked "how was your little ren fair?" which made me feel all defensive and then it hit me that i'm a huge dork. and then i was thinking, well, it could be worse. i could be a star wars dork or a trekkie dork or one of those dorks that goes to grateful dead cover band concerts and tries to guess which concert they are authentically replicating (albany, '78!!). but i'm still a dork. a crafty blogging dork.
(plus i'm a librarian)
(of course i'm only talking about myself here. you are wicked cool)
no way man, i am a total dork.

i'm more and more proud of my dorkiness as i get older. there is a delicate balance between dorky/hip that is worth keeping an eye on for the sake of your kids, though -- i strive to stay cool enough for them not to be totally disgusted with me!

Love that scene you've created with the snowflakes. Want to come by and decorate my house?
From one dork to another...

*Love* your display - I use all the same colors for our holiday decorating :)
take care,
Ms. Dorkerson

i know exactly what you're talking about. i've pretty much had to stop making fun of my boyfriend for being an audio nerd, because now he just shoots it right back at me.
also- i met a blog friend in person this weekend for the first time at a craft fair and her boyfriend was like "how do you two know each other?" he laughed when we said "from blogging". my boyfriend makes fun of me for blogging about everything- we're contemplating making t-shirts that say "why don't you go blog about it".
i think we all need something to nerd out over-it makes life more interesting!

...boo, I'm de-lurking now that I've read you're a fellow librarian dork..!! I work at a library in the north of England. I'm a HUGE fan of your work, when I get a little more free time would you be interested in seeing some of the display work I do at my library? I craft HUGE displays every month and at the moment I'm bang in the middle of the Christmas one, I'm also influenced by vintage style...in the meantime, keep up the great work, your blog is such an inspiration to me, all the best, Lisa x

I'm confident and comfortable in my dorkiness... once a band geek, always a band geek, in some form or another :-)
LOVE your new banner.

I came to terms with the fact that being a craft blogger is WAY UNCOOL long ago. I tried to keep myself warm with the thought that at least I don't dress up in chain mail, pointy ears, or do cosplay of any kind ... but it's cold comfort when you look at reality. It's made me a kinder, gentler hater of geeks. :)
Andrew used to make fun of me (and boy, did it used to get my dander up) by calling me a "blogger." Now it's evolved into him taunting me as a "published-pro-craft-blogger" and I've started not to mind. teehee

I think it only really hits home when you/I mention that you have a craft blog to someone who isn't really aware of this aspect of your/my life. The look of horror that crosses people's faces when they find out that you not only spend all your time sewing/knitting/gluing/whatever but that you *write* about it and share things with strangers on the internet is priceless. Embarrassing, but priceless.

Hello, my name is June. I am a dork.
Cute post--it made me smile.

I'm home sick, feeling just a little more like a dork after reading your post. Maybe I will make some snowflakes with Jackson rather than let him watch another cartoon...

Love the dork conversation. Yesterday I called myself a dork to my kids because I called a cartoon character by the wrong name. They were both quick to correct me, that I was in fact, NOT a dork, but merely a goofball.

Yes, we're dorks. But, you know what, dorks have fun. I'm totally having fun. And, I used to have fun at Ren faires, too. ;)

That Onion link rocks.
I've had to limit myself on the number of references I make to thing I see on blogs in my non-blog encounters. At least, I limit the number of times I actually say, "So I was reading this blog and..."

I just found your blog today and love it! I read back a few months and was so excited to see the books you posted. I bought that stitched version of A Childs garden of Verses a few months ago, added it to my copy from when I was little, and decided I need a collection of that book., Glad to know I'm not the only one!
And then to see Brian Wildsmith here - I have almost all of his books - some from back in the dark ages when I was a little girl and tghey first came out.
Anyway - I am so happy to have found my way here!

I'm totally a dork... although I prefer 'geek' - 'Crafty bloggy geek' to be more specific. And proud. And I'm also a librarian. With glasses. I'm rockin' the geekiness.
oh, annnnnd I make Hannah wear handmade clothes. I think they are cool but then I vaguely remember that anyone who wore homemade clothes at school was definitely not cool. Here's hoping no one notices when she finally goes to school!
