wednesday

went to the gym :: got the kids to school :: went to work :: picked up the kids but really didn't need to because jane went to drama and charlie went to chase's house :: ran some errands downtown :: picked up jane and some friends and took them out for a treat :: took jane and ellie to piano :: returned ellie and collected charlie :: made dinner :: watched charlie and john wrestle :: snuggled up with the kids and watched some quality programming :: john put the kids to bed so i played scrabulous :: off to read in bed :: good night!

no gym this morning (john's out of town) :: drop off the kids at jen's because i have to be early at :: work :: home from work for a bit of lunch :: pto meeting :: pick up kids :: pay bills :: left-overs for dinner :: play with kids :: go to swim lesson :: put kids to bed :: watch some idol while saying hello to you :: off to bed

monday

went to the gym :: got the kids to school :: cleaned the kids' messy messy rooms :: spent way to much time unsuccessfully trying to figure out how the frick to transfer my itunes library from my old mac to my new mac (tried using migration assistant - totally fucked it up - any help welcome) :: cleaned the rest of the house :: did about 10 loads of laundry :: picked up the kids :: cleaned and laundered even more :: made some dinner :: played with the kids :: put the kids to bed :: lazed in front of the tv instead of paying bills which will wait 'till tomorrow :: watching state of the union right now :: (he's an idiot) :: have a good night!

weekend highlights & soccer mom chatter

• skiing with the kids
• nice dinner out
• renting some good flicks (once and the lives of others)
• swimming with the kids
• ignoring housework and lazing about

lowlights include a nagging pinched nerve in my neck which is making me a little grumpy. and the nagging knowledge that i'm behind on a few things i should be ahead of. so i think i'm due for another pictures-and-not-so-much-text week.

oh - before i go - a few people have asked me for more info and/or ideas on class projects for school auctions. here's what i've got...

• lino-cut self portraits (kids drew on the lino, i carved it out and had the kids stamp the work on rice paper)
• paper collage self portraits (i painted squares on canvas w/water colors, then each student made a portrait using cut paper and mod podge. i sealed it with acrylic spray)
• google image search and flickr are great places to hunt for ideas. i love this and this (which is so beyond my skill level).
• and here are gobs more ideas
• this year i am making a decoupage suitcase and an art quilt. hopefully i'll be posting some work-in-progress pictures soon.

cabin fever

once again, i've got little going on but jen told me to post, and so i oblige. it's brutally cold out, and cabin fever is setting in. here's how i'm trying to fight back...

• swimming. it's an unbelievable bitch to get me to the pool in this weather, but once i'm in the water, i'm so happy. it's a definite mood lifter.
• bowling. took the kids with some friends yesterday. it was super fun even though we all suck (oh, i mean just me).
• being social. accepting invitations. inviting people over.
• drinking :)
• making lists and not letting myself sink into the chair w/my lounge pants and lap top until it's done.
• camping. just kidding. but that's what amanda is up to. holy crap is just about all i can say about that.

gocco doh!

so i gocco'd the tablecloth on my first attempt. but i think i got the hang of it. this was an idea i had for a valentine's card for john (from this song, which is the closest thing we have to a song, which i realize is an odd choice for "a song" but whatever). anyway, i don't love the way it came out but it was good practice.

i'm also toying around with ideas for my kids' class project for our upcoming school auction.

i've been e-mailing back and forth with daria a bit, exchanging ideas (her school auction season is the same as ours). stuff like that makes me love this craft-blog world.

i got some new boots. they are perfect for the slushy-dirty-snow weather we are currently enjoying around here.

and i snapped this picture across from our neighborhood high school yesterday.

they were hosting a discussion around the legalization of pot and there were some disgruntled parents trying to stop it from happening. this guy was standing near his totally tricked out 70s van, which made me chuckle. then last night, john found this video and left it on my laptop for me, which also made me chuckle. and now i've got the munchies.

lucky lucky me

kara rocks. she did a major purge last week and sent me her gocco! i've been wanting one since, like, ever. (or at least since i knew they existed).

she sent me other goodies, too. tons of gocco supplies, one of her cool totes, and some excellent kid books. this one i hadn't seen before, and i'm starting to think i've seen them all. i love the font and the illustrations. ubercute.
