did you know that barack obama has a flickr page?
he just made me a contact!
this makes up for him not calling me before the maine caucus.
michelle called instead.
and just once.
hillary called me, personally, at least four times.
but this definitely makes up for it.
(i'll have books later today...)
ok - i'm here to get rid of some books and hopefully make some people happy at the same time. win-win. a few disclaimers before we begin. if you are one of the many very generous and thoughtful people who have sent me books, please know that i really appreciate it and have always found wonderful material in every package i've received. i love the love. i have just reached the point where i can no longer keep things organized. ok, i have never been able to keep things organized, but it has reached crisis level and i now get overwhelmed just looking at the collection. something had to be done.
secondly, i am a tight-wad and a procrastinator, so these packages will be sent book-rate and it might take me a few days to get them to the post office. but i promise you this: i will get them out the door as soon as my lazy ass gets around to it.
today it's golden books. and you'll notice i have a lot of copies of the same books. i tried to give each group a nice variety.
here's what i'm thinking, just be the first person to leave a comment telling me which group of books you want and it's yours. then e-mail me your address.
more tomorrow!

as much as i love commiserating with you about this god-awful month, i think i need to move on. our vacation week is almost over, and there have been some nice highlights...sibling harmony...cool lunar eclipse...fun craft time w/friends...stuff like that.
anyway, my friend julia is inviting people to join her next week in posting ideas to get you through the rest of february. my contribution will be this: i recently did a major vintage book purge and thought i'd spread the love. so next week i'm going to be offering up lots of vintage kids books here. serious amounts of book love. and probably some chocolate.
i'm having one of those days were i can't type a decent sentence to save my life plus i have to go pack for a trip to vermont, so i'm going to end here.
hope you have a great weekend.

charlie's got the worst of the cold today so we're just chillin'. jane made him some new pokemon art that he's adding to his wall o' art here.
i have a good list of things i could be accomplishing at home today but i feel like i'm swimming through molasses. did i get a good night's sleep? yes. am i over my cold? yes. did i have a decent breakfast? yes. have i had enough coffee? double yes.
so what's my problem?
oh, yeah.
right.
it's fucking february.
today looked like this...
and we had hopes to ski but we all have colds.
so instead we went bowling and made cupcakes (and brought some to the neighbors) and played mad libs and made paper flowers and made the kids' favorite mac-n-cheese for dinner. and retired the pretty but maudlin music i've had on constant rotation for the past month and popped in some peppy nostalgia.
do i sound desperately upbeat?
today charlie said, "hey mom, remember when i could talk to crows? i can't anymore. i used to do it all the time, but then if forgot and now i lost it. i just can't do it anymore."
bummer.
