bleh

still getting over the flu which raged through our house last week. we're still coughing and sneezing and i'm still throwing back the nyquil each night but the kids went to school today and i will be back at work tomorrow. so that's progress.
jane got a hold of the spring mini boden catalog and got all wanty. i'm hoping throwing some appliques on last years' t-shirts will keep her placated. so far so good.
speaking of jane, we had our first consultation at the orthodontist today to discuss her underbite. that was fairly overwhelming and a little scary. if anyone out there has any experience with underbites and headgear and the like, i'd love to hear from you.
Ugh, flu.
Love that new tulip header. My two favorites, old pottery and pink tulips.

your new header. it's spring. totally and completely spring. hooray.
(and hoping that the germs have left your building.)

cute header.
i hear you on the boden. although, i will admit, i did buy some for the girls. and myself. but no appliques - that we do ourselves. :)
glad you all are feeling better. being sick just sucks.

love that tshirt- i would definitely take some appliqued shirts in lieu of new clothes. that's a great neckline too- she's so very hip.

Ugh. Lola has an underbite too. I'm not looking forward to the orthodonture. I'll be looking to you and Jane for the sage advice.

And man, isn't NyQuil the greatest thing?

My son (15) started last year with a palatal expander and headgear. He just got his top braces last week. It's been a journey! He has sensitivity issues (one of the reasons we had to wait so long) and I thought we were in for a tough adjustment but it went better than I expected. Griffin has an underbite also and his headgear attaches to little prongs in his mouth by rubber bands. He is supposed to wear it all night, every night and during the day too if he can. And it's so expensive- We will be paying $177 a month for two and a half years! And that's with insurance covering about half. If you or Jane have any specific questions- just email me.

Love the spring-like header. I hope your bout with the yuck ends soon.
I only have experience with an overbite and headgear and I'm hoping modern technology has an improvement...

Had two in braces at the same time for six years. We had spreaders for the roof of their mouths, tongue guards, stuff like that, but no head gear. My youngest has a cross bite and her teeth are all coming in around the baby teeth. Not pretty. We are waiting until she is 8 in September to get to work on it all. It is expensive. I was paying $75 a month per kid for 2 years with insurance. I shudder to think what my youngest's will cost!

Ugh. Sorry to hear about the never-ending yucks, meg. I'm glad to hear you're all on the mend. The mini-boden catalog is particularly great this season, I think, but your appliques are wicked cute. xo

I had clear braces as a teenager. I refused to wear the rubberbands or the headgear so the orthodontist finally just gave up and removed the braces before I left for college. If only I wasn't so stubborn. I had the braces on longer than I would have if I had worn the gear and now my teeth look pretty much the same as far as the overbite/ overjet. Not ugly, but I can tell. I have no clue how you will convince a girl that her future self will be happy she did this at a young age. I obviously didn't take that advice, and now it is too late (unless I decide to go for adult braces on my own dime!)

Lovely new banner and glad to hear everyone is feeling better. Orthodontia - for one week and one day in January we actually had three kids in braces at the same time after Danielle got hers on put on (but then Josh had his removed). Two of the four kids had cross-bites and all kinds of appliances. I myself had two different types of headgear. Hopefully she'll only have to wear it at night, like I did in 7th and 8th grades. It's definitely worth it - 3 years of braces, 3 years of retainers and 20+ years later my dentist still comments on my smile! Good luck, Jane! It'll be worth it :)

ugh...sorry to hear about the underbite...I had a serious one as a kid and actually had my jaw broken and wired shut for 6 weeks and then had braces with headgear for about 1 year after...that was a breeze and man am I happy that my family was able to provide that for me...seems like EVERY kid has braces to some extent now so it seems more of a rite of passage...not so embarassing anymore. If you have any questions...give me an e-mail

They still do head gear? Oh, crap! I thought there were new, uh, less obvious methods. Hang in there, and hopefully all will be well. And i think I'd get online to see what other orthodontists say about head gear (ugh!)

I never had any head gear with my braces (old style, full metal bands top and bottom) but I did do the palatal expander (never remember what that was called) and had two teeth pulled on the bottom which you would never know ... I just wanted to comment to say that personally I wouldn't start braces too young. I got mine about age 15/16. My sister started in 5th grade and had them again a 2nd time (!) when she was a junior/senior. Not sure how old your daughter is but she still has some growing to do and I think it makes sense to wait until most of that growing has stopped (but I'm no orthodontist!)
