it's jen's birthday today.

back in town

we were away again for a few days, dropping jane off at her nana's house in pa. for a week and then spending a night in mystic, conn. with charlie on the way home (the aquarium there was pretty cool).

but before that, i got to spend saturday with erin and her husband (fatty). we did a little thrifting in the morning (i'm mailing your stuff out tomorrow, erin) and met a whole bunch of bloggy/flickr types for dinner. erin is so fun and easy to hang with (and fatty is such a good sport). i had a great time with them - i hope we get to do it again soon.

here's a picture from the lobster shack, where we ate saturday. i was noticing how the seagulls seem to line up perfectly equidistant from each other. birds are kooky.
i was about to say "happy monday" but it's tuesday already. i can tell it's going to be one those weeks were i can't keep anything straight.

it's not the heat

it's humid. the kids and i ran some errands this morning and are now trying not to kill each other while waiting for the city pool to open. have i mentioned how much i looooooooove the city pool? it's the best thing in the world on a hot sweaty afternoon (except when the pool is evacuated due to "contamination". "contamination" is a euphemism for exactly what you think. yuck.)

other random bits...

• a belated thank you for all the nice birthday wishes and birthday cards and birthday treats. and i forgot to wish my birthday twin, kara, a very happy day. i hope you had a good one!
• this is the summer of bloggy meet-ups. i get to have dinner with all these awesome people on sat. night. and then in august i get to spend some quality time with this girl. how lucky am i?
• alec baldwin makes me laugh.
• omg, helen mirren. can i be you please?
• i did a little shop update (see below). i was going to do more but the humidity is slowing me down. in fact, this blog post is sucking me dry. i think i'll stop here and go grab a drink that is 5 parts ice, one part drink. hope you are somewhere cooler than me today. xoxo

home again, home again

we had a super mellow vacation.

we took a ferry over to ny and had a nice lunch checked out the shelburne museum (loved the joshua longo exhibit in the adam kalkin house)
came home and had jen and family over for dinner. she gave me this awesome pot for my birthday.

now i'm unpacking and doing laundry and organizing my horrifically unorganized life.
there may be a few vintage goodies in the shop this week.

hello, goodbye

lame in the blogging department again.

this week we've been to the pool, the beach, the water park, the library, the frog pond, the dentist, etc....so we've been busy.

also, i've been doing one of those crazy fasting new age cleansing things this week...so i'm a little tired and spacey.

we leave for vacation this saturday (a week in vermont).
can't.wait.
looking forward to reading, lounging, swimming, kayaking, seeing good friends and their adorable kids, biking, hiking, bopping around burlington, searching for champ, roasting marshmallows, grilling, making yummy drinks, etc...

i'll probably be a little scarce around here again next week...hopefully back to normal the following week...

everyday sunshine

i ignored all the housework and met some friends at the beach today. we made an awesomely huge and cool drip castle. the kids found 78 hermit crabs. i missed some spots on my back and got a nasty burn, but it's all good.

summer in maine is beautiful and fleeting.

vacationland

yesterday my kids woke up whining that they were bored and i was like, oh shit, i have no plan for the day.

but then they called around to a bunch of friends (who were mostly at camps) and found one who wasn't and they invited us to meet them at the beach and i was like, phew!

and the beach was awesome.

and then we got ice cream.

and then we went straight to the city pool because they wanted some more swim time and this year is momentous for us because charlie is now old enough to swim on his own and no longer needs to be within arm's length of his mom at all times.

so i got to swim laps for an hour while they splashed around and i was like, this is sweeeeeet! 

and then we came home and had dinner and then my neighbor invited me to sit outside and have some drinkies and i was like, hell yes!

(and today is cold and rainy but that's ok. i'm still riding on yesterday's summer high)

damn you, showtime original series. damn you to hell.

i made the mistake of popping in season one of californication at 10pm last night.
i'm praying for some nap time today.

still plugging away at getting a shop update together. i had a few pails made, but they were snatched up before they ever made it into the shop. so i'm working on some more.
my friend sent me this video the other day, which i thought was pretty funny. (as homer simpson would say, "it's funny 'cause it's true").

it's friday!

john comes home tomorrow!

gone to pot

john is away and season three of "weeds" just came out which means i didn't fall asleep until 3am last night. which has rendered me pretty useless today.

jen and aprill are back from renegade -  i was relieved  to hear it was a successful trip despite the fucking monsoon that hit brooklyn saturday afternoon.

summer starts for my kids tomorrow, at 12pm sharp. i'm looking forward to a lot more of this...
maybe i'll have something more interesting to say here after i've had a decent night's sleep. (of course, if past posts are any indication, that's a bit of a crap shoot....)
