what i've been up to...

the halls got decked.

we had an ice storm. it was pretty.

i spent the weekend in boston with some good friends. this is the anthropologie store. i've been itching to see it since erin posted these photos of the new york windows. i want to replicate this but that's a whole lotta paper chain. you need paper chain elves for a job like that.

my kids decided to live in boxes for a few days. it was pretty funny.

this week is an epic battle between me and my to-do list. wish me luck.

all summer in a day

we spent this past sunday cramming in all the stuff on my summer to-do list that we hadn't yet done. we took a ferry out to a nearby island for lunch, took a walk on a jetty out to a lighthouse, hit old orchard beach for some excellent low-brow boardwalk kind of fun. all day i kept thinking of that short story by ray bradbury, "all summer in a day". did you read that? i read it in 5th grade, along with "the veldt". ray bradbury was one creepy individual.

anyway, we are in back-to-school, back-to-work mode. tomorrow is the kids' first day. it's also jane's 10th birthday. there might be a sappy post here soon. you've been warned.

nothin but blue skies.

i know i said i'd have some crafting to share this week but oh my god it's been nice out. the kids are on vacation and we've been making the most of the uncommonly good weather. and i've been working on painting jane's room (a project i started way back here w/the thought that i'd have it finished in a week. who did i think i was kidding?)

anyway, i'll get to the crafty stuff when it's raining out. in the meantime, here are some mostly un-kid-friendly links john has sent my way recently...

(my favorite swear, incidentally, is *whore* which isn't really a swear but i feel like it packs a nice punch w/out the overdone shock value of the "c" word...)

(it's funny that i seem totally comfortable peppering this post w/swears but feel shy about whipping out the "c" word. i'm sure there's some feminist commentary on this)

we're home

but here's a few more pics of our trip.

we had a fantastic time at the museum of natural history, chinatown, times square, central park zoo. we hit the apple store and the american girl store and the crazy toysrus with the ferris wheel in the middle. i'd like to say we ate fantastic food but with jane the vegetarian and charlie the picky mcnugget, we usually find common ground in the cheese/bread/pasta places. good pizza, though.

once again i'm feeling a bit brain dead. i've got some crafty goals for the week so i'll be back soon.

pooped

i hit a wall in a big way today. just tired is all. i have fun stuff to post but i'm too cooked. here's some pics from my day...

and here's another view out my window picking the kids up. i really need to start knitting again, as i see erin is always making the most of her carpool time. i have started the habit of leaving a book on my dashboard for these kind of moments, so i don't feel like the time is totally wasted.

we got quite the little snow storm this afternoon.
this song was in heavy rotation today.
it's a favorite.

playing hooky

we skipped school and ditched work today and headed down to boston to visit the aquarium. on our way, we stopped at our favorite restaurant in portsmouth, nh for a little friendly toast (and big-ass pancakes). how many restaurants are cool enough to warrant their own flickr group?

the aquarium has a new (well, new to me) jellyfish exhibit that was sooooooo cool. they are my new favorite things. i could have stared at them for hours, but there were sharks! and sting rays! and giant turtles! c'mon, mom!

it was nice to take a day off like that. my friend told my this weekend that she does that at least once a season, which i think is pretty clever.

i lovermont

vermont is so pretty. my friends are so funny. i had a great weekend. ate too much, drank too much, stayed up way too late. that kind of fun. i miss them all already.

i'm feeling behind on various commitments i have coming up so it might be a light week around here, blog-wise. i finally got a long-awaited swap out the door today, though...

be forewarned, all potential craft-swappers - the turn-around time here is about 8 or 9 months. i'm pretty sure i'm not exaggerating.
